We’re excited to announce the launch of the TrustTrace Certified Material Compliance, a one-stop solution that offers real-time traceability at a material level. Global leading brand adidas is one of the first fashion companies to adopt this solution, after providing valuable input into its development.

Within the first three months of using the platform, adidas has documented 1 million transactions covering 10,000 materials and styles across 500 facilities, proving the scalability potential of this new solution.

Making the Movement of Materials Transparent

The platform is centered around material compliance for both certified and non-certified materials, giving brands granular visibility into product sustainability metrics. The timing of this new platform has never been more relevant. “In the midst of global greenwashing and challenges with unsubstantiated claims, brands and regulators are moving quickly to install confidence among consumers that products are as sustainable as they claim to be,” explains Shameek Ghosh, CEO and co-founder of TrustTrace. “By linking all purchase orders to production steps, certificates, supplier declarations and quality reports on the TrusTrace platform, we’re activating brands to prove sustainability claims with confidence,” he continues.

Real-time traceability allows brands to capture data from supply chain transactions as products and materials move through the value chain. Meaning that finished goods have traceability information already associated with them when they arrive at market. Until now, top-down traceability has been the industry’s solution, but it’s a far less accurate and reliable way of calculating the impact of a product, relying on generalizations and estimations rather than data.

Better still, our Certified Material Compliance solution can help brands identify waste within their supply chains by intelligently calculating discrepancies between inputs and outputs of materials. Not only does this tackle potentially fraudulent transactions within the supply chain, but an added benefit is the ability to uncover wasteful systems. The fashion industry is currently attempting to tackle an overwhelming waste crisis, so we see huge value in this solution to promote greater efficiencies in production, keeping pre-consumer waste textiles out of landfills in the process.

“For brands, supply chain due diligence and sustainability strategies need material traceability, provided by reliable, digital platforms such as TrusTrace,” says Katrin Ley, managing director at Fashion For Good, one of TrusTrace’s early investors.

How We’re Achieving Brands’ Sustainability Goals

In working with adidas, we’re able to support the company’s ambitions to move toward working with 100% recycled polyester by 2024, and implementing sustainability-centric technology, materials, design and manufacturing across 90% of the products by 2025.

“As part of its commitment to sustainability, adidas has worked with TrustTrace to gain more visibility into our complete supply chain, down to the material level”

“As part of its commitment to sustainability, adidas has worked with TrustTrace to gain more visibility into our complete supply chain, down to the material level,” says Katja Schreiber, senior Vice President of sustainability at adidas. “The information gleaned from this will help us create even more transparency of our sustainability efforts.”
